I have been on the phone for four hours. I need to get rid of Web Root because I changed from Geek Squad support to Total Tech Support. I have new Web Root software to install and and the key code, but it won't install without getting rid of the old application. Nothing we have tried has allowed deletion of the application.

You didn't tell what was tried to uninstall Webroot. Your best hope is to contact Webroot for support.
Why do you need something like "WebRoot"? Even a support service like Geek Squad?

My advice would be to erase the drive completely to eradicate any sort of "cleaners, optimizers, security, or maintenance" crapware, then reinstall the OS. Migrate your user account back and reinstall any other apps you need.
Learn to use your Mac on the internet as opposed to relying on someone bilking you with fake "support." Even if it is "free," it is costing you something.
