What are the steps I would take to retrieve an old text message from 2018 (3 years) ago? When I bought my Apple XR phone in March 2018, I was learning how to use the iPhone and accidentally deleted this text message I sent to a friend. Would you be able to assist me on how to retrieve this message?

go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and check the switch position for Messages
If the switch is ON, then you cannot recover your deleted messages. (so you can stop reading)
If the switch is OFF, then you might be able to recover your messages IF you have an iPhone backup that contains the messages you are trying to recover. In which case you'd need to restore your iPhone to that backup. In doing so, you'd likely lose some data between now and whenever your backup occurred.
even if you have that iPhone backup, I can't imagine this process is worth it to recover a single text message from 2.5 years ago
