iMessages are being marked as read

Ever since I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max some of my iMessages are being marked as read and I won’t get a notification for them, minutes or even an hour later I see that it actually says I read it, is this happening to anyone else? Thoughts on how to fix it?

Having the exact same issue with my 11 ProMax. I guess it’s something wrong with the current iOS. It’s frustrating. I’ve told everyone that if it says their message was read by me immediately to send another. It doesn’t seem to have the issue for multiple messages, just the first one sent. While this is certainly no solution, it helps those I frequently message know how to notify me.

I need to understand what you are seeing and how you are interpreting what you are seeing. I understand that you are sending a message to someone and then minutes/hours later you see that there is an indication that the message was read. Is that correct? If YES then what you are seeing is that YOUR sent message to someone was READ by the recipient. That READ indication only appears when the recipient reads your iMessage AND the recipient has set his/her iPhone to send READ RECEIPTS.

Did I understand your question correctly? If not then please clarify further. Thanks.

Absolutely having the same issue. This is a very painful bug. I’m missing so many important work and personal text message notifications.

Apple chat support said engineers are aware. I have a call with Apple support tomorrow night. This needs to be addressed immediately. I have also submitted feedback on this issue. I know this is Thanksgiving week but Apple needs to fix this.

I have tried everything and nothing has worked. A reboot seems to fix for a short time but then it returns. If I’m using the phone I get notifications, seems to happen when phone is locked/screen off. Not 100% sure on that though. Also not getting the notifications on the AW either.

let me clarify, I’ll send I text to someone at 5pm, then some time after that(lets say 5:15pm) I’ll check and see they responded at 5:05pm but I never was notified at all and no red badges indicating that I even have a text message. So what’s happening is that they respond promptly, but for some reason I don’t get a notification or red badge indicating I have a text message, therefore it’s essentially saying that I already read the text and never responded
