Can't access Startup Security Utility on iMac Pro after upgrade to macOS Big Sur....

I've updated macOS to Big Sur on my iMac Pro, and wanted to be able to another OS on an external drive.

But although I can select the dis for booting, the system doesn't allow me really boot, due to security settings.

But when booting in recovery mode Command+R, I can launch the Startup Disk Utility to select the drive to be booted, I can reset password of user accounts, but the Startup Security Utility seams missing!

Hello steled,

After reviewing your post, it seems like you do not see Startup Security Utility in macOS Recovery. We would recommend you read these articles for more information.

  1. "When you see the macOS utilities window, choose Utilities > Startup Security Utility from the menu bar."

About Startup Security Utility

  • "External Boot (Mac models with an Apple T2 chip only): Use this feature to control whether your Mac can start up from an external hard drive, thumb drive, or other external media. For more information about selecting a level of External Boot security, see the Apple Support article About Startup Security Utility."

This doesn’t help me at all. The iMac Pro has definitely a T2 chip inside. And still I can’t access the Startup Security Utility !

I read all the information I could find about it on internet.

I never get to see the macOS utilities window neither.

In recovery mode, all it shows is a way to recover or change passwords for accounts, and from the apple logo menu, I can choose the startup utility where I can choose the system to boot from, But no option to allow booting from an external drive (even thought I can choose to boot it, it won’t allow me to boot it)
