macbook pro 15-inch 2017, 3 external displays

Hi,

I've got this issue with my mbp 15-2017 with radeon graphics where despite being specified as capable of supporting 4x external displays up to 4K resolution each, it is unable to carry 3 displays of which only one is a 4K display.

Display1: 2560x1440 connected via Belkin Dock (https://www.belkin.com/sg/p/P-F4U095/)

Display 2: 3840x2160 connected via usb-c cable to displayport conversion to one of the usb-c port.

Display 3: 1920x1080 connected different ways

Once I plug in display 3, the screens start flickering on and off as if I'm constantly unplugging and re-plugging one of the displays. It doesn't matter how i make the connection and I've tried the following ways:

The laptop itself is always closed and in a stand.

If i toggle graphics switching in energy saver preferences on and off, and then plug the 3rd monitor, they all work correctly for a while, until the machine goes to sleep. On wake up, I then have to disconnect one of the displays before I can get a usable screen again -- and it won't resolve itself until I do the toggle graphics switching trick again.

Looks like the system is not remembering the graphics switching preference when it wakes up, and can't make up its mind between the high performance graphics vs the internal graphics and results in no usable display until one of the displays is disconnected

Using the internal display with 2 external displays works correctly, but this is not an option as I have my 3 displays on monitor arms for ergonomic reasons.

any advice how to resolve this?
