duplicated folders

I think I have inadvertently duplicated my photos. Can anyone tell me what these folders are? The all seem to contain hundreds of photos - all of which I have in my photos folder. Can I delete them?

NO NO NO. (sorry for shouting)

These are the folders INSIDE your photos library, where photos stores the images. Do not change ANYTHING inside the photo library if you don't want to lose access to all your photos.

(your library is : /Users/barryhodges/Pictures/Photos Library copy.photoslibrary)

If this is a COPY of your actual library - then you can delete the whole library - but before you try this be VERY sure that it is a copy, and not the one being used by photos.

To be honest, I'm surprised spotlight is even showing these to you.

OK

EDIT - Scratch all that - looks like you might not be showing file extensions in finder.

In finder, go to preferences, advanced, and tick "show all filename extensions"

Does the library now show the extension .photoslibrary in all screens?

(This is what my facebook selector looks like - you are missing the panel at the bottom with the thumnails in. See if you can scroll down in the window, and drag the divider bar up (It might be off the bottom of the screen)

Good Morning Bazzer :-)

The photos library package is not designed to be accessed directly using finder (which is what you are doing when you try and browse it by clicking on it in the browser). Which is probably why it is greyed out. It is a database, not just a folder full of files.

I strongly reccomend you stop trying to do that. I think is is what got you where you are in the fist place.

Your best workaround until this is fixed is to export the images you want to upload to facebook to a folder first. Select them in photos - then file>export. Then upload them to facebook or wherever from the folder.

One other thing worth trying. Create a new user account (Settings>users). Log into that account, import some pictures into it's photos library (it will have it's own library) and see if the problem persists.

Good Luck :-)

  • Log into her account. Check where her library is located (Photos settings general will tell you)
  • Copy that "file" (actually a packaged folder structure, as you know) to somewhere you will be able to access. Probably an external drive will be easiest.

  • Log onto your account
  • Create a subfolder in pictures called (eg) "test library"
  • Copy your wife's library into that folder.
  • Hold down the option key while starting photos.
  • Select that library to open.
  • Go to preferences and set it as the system library (if you don't want her images added to your iCloud, turn off iCloud also, but be aware this might trigger a complete resync of your library. In fact changing the system library might also)
  • Close photos.
  • Open facebook, and see if you can upload a photo from that library - I suspect it won't work.
  • Reopen your normal library, and set it to the system library. Restart iCloud if you turned it off.
