Siri not working properly on IPhone 12 Pro Max

I have an IPhone 12 Pro Max, and I have had to toggle Siri off/on several times since I got the phone because Siri keeps intermittently not working.......why is this happening?? It happens to me almost every day, which is way too frequent to be an “incidental” problem...

thanks

Response to “hey siri” stopped on my 2 month old iphone 12. Spent 2-3 calls with apple customer support with no success initially (tried all enable/disables, restarts). Lastly, they asked me to use ‘Restore your iphone’ option by connecting to my laptop and using iTunes (it seems doing a reset on iphone would not work). Follow the steps on itunes and ensure your iphone is backed up. Then when prompted use the option to set your iphone as new device (not restore from backup). After this my iphone started responding again to “hey siri” well. Sign in to your apple id and your icloud backed up data/apps should be back.

Also, I bought a new iphone 12 for my wife last week and we see the same problem again! It’s disappointing after paying so much for the phone!

Good luck

I was able to resolve this issue with my iPhone 12 pro that I bought just last month. At first, I thought I had set up my Siri. When I tried saying “Hey Siri,” my new phone didn’t respond. Since I own Macbook Pro and iPad pro as well, those are the only two devices that respond to my command. I did everything, restarted my phone, toggled siri on and off but nothing happens. I played around the settings and I remember I turned the sound recognition on. When I turned it off, my “Hey siri” command finally worked. I hope this helps!

Had the same problems to activate Siri on my new Iphone 12 mini as many of you. Solved it by pressing the side button for a few seconds when phone was in standby mode, this activated siri and worked. But the settings were still not done. Then I went to the menu Siri& Search and also pressed the side button for a while. Automatically the 5 steps setup was activated.

god luck !

I just spent almost an hour trying to get Siri to work on my brand new iPhone 12. I didn't even have the Siri & Search option under Settings. Here are the steps I took to fix the issue:

Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions

Allowed Apps > Siri & Dictation

Settings > Siri & Search > toggle on Listen for "Hey Siri" (etc.)

Hope this helps!

After I left my comment (above) earlier today, I started researching solutions as well as trying things myself. I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max so I’m not sure how it would work for anyone else but I held down my power button (the only button on the right side of the phone) & although it’s already a button that’s meant to activate Siri manually, I held it down & Siri responded, so I asked Siri a question. I then went back to my home screen & tried the usual “Hey Siri” & suddenly Siri responds to me. I’m not sure it will work for everyone, but it was the only thing that worked for me & I had tried at least 6 different things that were suggested to me from websites all over the internet but, none worked for me. I’ve been testing it over & over, it seems to work normally now. Hopefully others here will have the same luck as me.

hi There, i had the same problem as well i believe that this is a major bug and does not have anything to do with your setting although i found a way to fix it for mine, at first siri was not working at all i checked my settings evereything was on and it wasnt even the hey siri command but even when i held the side button it would show the very beginning of the siri animation at the bottom but then it would cut out, but anyways what i did to fix it for me was i turned off siri, restarted my phone and turned it on and it worked fine

Here are few steps which worked for me:

First, Check if in Siri & Search, "Listen for "Hey Siri" is switched on/off. By default it was switched off for me.

If it is switched off

then switch it on and try

else

Check if the side button press works for Siri, if not, then enable it.

After enabling the side button press, try to press and if Siri works, check for the "Listen to Hey Siri".

It should sort the issue out.

I am on iOS 14.4.2
