Xcode missing Debug View Hierarchy button

Hi

I'm working through a Swift tutorial for Xcode and reached a section which describes using the Debug View Hierarchy button to illustrate certain features of the App I'm developing. When I open the debug area I only have the close icon and a blue right pointing arrow.

An on-line search for help suggested that the View Debugging option for the Scheme might be disabled but this all seems OK on my set up. Which is: iOS - Big Sur 11.0.1 and Xcode v12.2. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I see what you are seeing in the debug area when the app isn't running. When I run the app, the debug area has additional buttons for stepping through the code and the Debug View Hierarchy button.

Look at the Build action in the scheme and make sure the Debug executable checkbox is selected and the app is set to launch automatically. I see what you are seeing if I deselect the Debug executable checkbox.
