Norton 360 not working with Big Sur

I had to uninstall Norton 360 because of compatibility issues with Big Sur. Even after updating the Norton software to work with Big Sur, my laptop kept restarting every other day, to the point where I couldn't work. Does anyone have any solutions? Should I install the Norton software again? I don't want to be working without a proper antivirus.

The last several years have shown us posts from users that had all manner of problems attempting to run anti-virus software with various releases of macOS. A large majority enjoyed renewed stabliity and performance from the macOS installation after fully removing ____ anti-virus product. None will find real viruses on the Mac, and cannot prevent you from installing malware, but they will periodically flag a legitimate file either in the operating system or within a valid application.


The reason you do not require an anti-virus product on your Mac is it is not based on MS Windows, and there is already built-in security that prevents outside attacks. You should never download software from torrents, or from websites other than the original software vendor to avoid adware/malware infestation.

Hi,

Like VikingOSX said, when Apple releases a new version of MacOS there are always problems with antivirus programs and they need to be updated to work with the latest version and all that, but if you are cautious then the Mac’s built in security will be enough to protect you but if you would like a antivirus installed then you can either; wait until a update is released by Norton then reinstall the Norton antivirus and it should work, or try malware bytes or avast antivirus, they tend to be quite quick to update their antivirus programs.


So wait for a bit and if Norton doesn’t release an update then maybe try a different antivirus program.

Thank you for the recommendation. I have used antivirus softwares before without any compatibility issues, and they have been purchased from my university.

I actually have heard conflicted opinions on the need for antivirus software for Mac, so I decided to be extra cautious. For now, I'll work without installing any antivirus software, and see how it goes. Thanks again.

I just did an upgrade to Big Sur on my Mac Mini a couple days back and noticed I couldn't access Norton 360. I use it for the VPN. so after reading this thread and downloading Norton again and still couldn't get the app to come up, I decided to trash the app which brought up the Norton uninstall, and then I reran the download. this fixed my issue, the app is now back to working fine and I have my VPN back...


long story short, delete the app and download from Norton and do a reinstall...
