Backspace erases consecutive messages in mail app

When I try to delete a message using backspace sometimes consecutive messages are erased even if i press the backspace just once.

I tried to change the behaviour in keyboard settings and set the key repeat to off and delay to long but still no change.

Any suggestions? Is it that mail app has a specific issue?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

Hey there!

I was thinking the same thing, if it’s not happening in any other apps, as you said, I may test the issue in safe mode, and if it didn’t work in safe mode, I would definitely try testing in a new admin account, (Just for testing).

Safe Mode:

Create a new user:

Those two tests can reveal a whole lot of a potential cause, as there can be many causes of that behavior, let me know how it goes!

I am sorry I misinformed you.

I installed Spark to handle my emails but I noticed that it happens in Spark as well.

I kept trying to replicate the issue in other apps and noticed that it happens as well (i am not using backspace as much in other apps and therefore i did not notice it).

So probably a faulty key? is there a way to clean it?

thanks for the input though

Hey again! Yeah, that’s what it sounds like, I still might try those two tests mentioned earlier to be sure it’s the hardware.

Anyhow, what model of Mac do you have? If it is the hardware it sounds like a possible symptom of the Keyboard Service Program, in which, if affected, Apple will repair it for you, see this article:

Hope that helps.
