I experienced this with an earlier 14. update...
Try going into Settings, General, look for software update 14.2 and delete it, then try again.
For me it took a few repeat attempts but happily updated in the end...
Good luck and enjoy!

Try this:
Remove and download the update again
If you still can't install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:
If you don’t see the update in the list of apps or if the issue happens again, you need to update your device with your computer using Finder or iTunes.
Banging head to wall and being thankful to Apple didn't help. Disabling device passcode before update helped (atleast in my case).
Hi Nev, feeling your frustration... have experienced this couple of times, once a couple of months back, and now today I am in this process again.
The update is 688.6MB, so that isn't the problem. Just one of those tech things, they don't always click or stick and sometimes need a couple of go's.
Just stay calm and keep trying, it will work eventually. It may require letting go and walking away in between - go for a walk or a coffee or whatever you like doing. Restart the iPad holding sleep/wake & home button until the Apple appears.
Good luck and be thankful it's Apple (other tech no better and often more painful)!
I cannot install iPad IOS 14.2 onto my iPad mini 4. Current software version 12.4.1. I have used 11.2 GB or 16GB so should have plenty of storage. I can successfully download but it fails to install. Can anyone help.
I am afraid I have carried out most of these, Deleted the down load, and then down loaded and tried to re-install with always the same message, I have done this numerous times, including re-setting the wireless settings and re-booting the iPad. However the update is now not iPadOS 14.2, but iPadOS 14.3, which I understand is a brand new version. But with exactly the same results!
I have deleted un-wanted apps and have 5.5GB of storage left (not including the down load)
I can't load it through a computer because the iPad is not linked to our lap top. (Its my partners iPad).
Can anyone please help?
