iPhone 12 unlocked?

I want to order the iPhone12 in the US for delivery to my friend who lives in NYC. My friend is travelling to South Africa and will bring it over for me. Will it be unlocked and will I be able use it in South Africa?

You need to buy it unlocked from the USA.

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV AND HOMEPOD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.
