I’m trying to add my phone number to iMessage so that I can receive and also send messages from my phone number but I’m getting “error occurred “ how do I fix this?
If you're sure you already performed ALL the steps provided here (to no avail):--> Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support , contact Apple Support using this link:--> Get Support

some mobile providers and/or connection plans do not allow international sms, they are needed to activate iMessage.
check this, and if it's your case, ask provider to activate them for short period while you activate imessage
I followed all the guidelines but I’m still getting a message that error occurred in adding my phone number to my iMessage
