Blacklist x-rated wifi names?

Hi, I have a*hole college students as neighbors and I also have my own young kids who have to sometimes do school remotely. Which means they always have to pick the name of our wifi network off the list of wifis (we actually have 2 right now, don't ask). Anyway, how can I hide the offensive wifi name from my kids? I've seen a lot of people ask this. It feels like Apple just doesn't care about the kids or those of us who want a short list of wifis.

Just because you're an engineer who wants to see everything, doesn't mean the rest of us do. I certainly will not be clicking on, or ever want to see, the offensively named networks. So, if your answer is, why click on the wifi list if you don't want to see the list of all your neighbors' stuff, just skip this question. Thanks.

For those who get it, thanks for any help you can provide. :)

With Catalina and earlier releases of macOS, the Wi-Fi chip is pinging everything within reach, which produces a variable list of wireless devices that you cannot edit, or hide, as long as you continue using a wireless connection.

In macOS Big Sur, the Wi-Fi menu bar item is now tucked inside the new feature called control center that resides on the same menu bar. It shows just one Wi-Fi router name, the one in your home that you default to connecting too. The long annoying list of Wi-Fi addresses is gone.

Your choices.'

  1. Figure out how to use a wired Ethernet connection in your current setting, with your existing installation of macOS.
  2. Upgrade to Big Sur if your Mac meets the hardware requirements to eliminate long neighboring wireless router lists.
