Unable to unlock Mac with Apple Watch

Ever since upgrading my Apple Watch 5 to an Apple Watch 6, and upgrading my Mac Mini to Big Sur, my Mac is unable to communicate with my watch and therefore I can't unlock my Mac with my watch. Anyone else experiencing this?

When I try to turn on the setting to allow it, I get a message that "Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch"

Update to watchOS 7.1, as it has a fix for unlocking Macs

If that does not work, it should, but if it does not work, then read the following threads

Check out this thread on fixing Apple Watch unlocking Mac

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251803595?answerId=253458029022#253458029022

Then follow with this thread

And

I also found that it took awhile for the iCloud Keychain records to propagate and merge on all the systems. More so when you have multiple devices sharing the keychain (I have 4 Macs, the iPhone, and the Apple Watch). I followed both of the above threads, but it was not reliably working until the next day, when I tried again. And I did have to click the enable check box twice the next day, but then it stuck.

And this thread says they also had to toggle the Apple Watch -> Settings -> Siri -> Listen for "Hey Siri" option off then on

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251803595?answerId=253458029022#253458029022

Hints (you will understand when you read the first and second threads):

Applications -> Utilities -> Keychain Access

Finder -> Go menu -> ~/Library/Sharing/AutoUnlock

System Preferences -> iCloud -> Keychain

I've tried this method twice, it has not worked either time (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251803595?answerId=253458029022#253458029022).

I've tried toggling Hey Siri off then back on.

I have 7.1 on my watch, Big Sur 11.0.1 on my Mac.

The unlock Mac with Apple Watch worked fine until the update to Big Sur

Can't wait till this figure out what's causing the problem.

It would nice if there were options to turn on "enhanced logging" so that we can more logically determine where the failure is rather than these various trial and error approaches. Even saw one Youtube video which had 8 different options to try with a number of steps as crazy as turn off watch, turn back on, turn off mac 3 times... really. I know Apple Support has been engaged on this issue. It would nice to get an update .
