Sound volume fluctuates wildly when watching CBS All Access or Hulu Live TV on Apple TV4K (OS 14.2) with default audio to HomePod

When I try to watch Live TV via Hulu or TV via CBS All Access (live or streaming old shows) on my Apple TV 4K with default audio output to a stereo pair of HomePods, the volume of the sound varies wildly--one minute so soft it's almost inaudible, the next painfully loud. TV OS is v. 14.2 and HomePod software is also 14.2.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a hardware issue or related to the latest version of TVOS and HomePod software? Any advice for a fix?

To start, check that your HomePod has "Keep the Volume Consistent enabled" check out here here: Change HomePod settings

If you're only noticing this behavior with specific apps, you may also want to reach out to their support regarding this behavior.

Fargo 2020 season audio was also really bad - on FX and Hulu. It's hit & miss with each production. 'Black Narcissus' sounded robust and full-bodied on HomePod. I only use Fubo, Plex, YoutubeTV & local/regional live programming when I watch.

CBS Access in particular has notorious, bad audio for the basic account anyway. Only thing I use it for is Star Trek Discovery, then cancel after each season. Sounds like crappy mono mix. Disable the HomePod when I watch it. Hulu I've had better results with. Fubo doesn't even recognize Airplay.
