Notifications cause Slack and Teams to freeze

I have an odd situation where if I get an alert in Slack or Teams that triggers a notification (eg I am mentioned, or get a direct message) then Slack and Teams will both freeze - no updates, can't change the channels or read the message.

All very odd, it happens if either or both are open. I've tried clean reinstalls (clearing Library cache) but it keeps reoccurring. I've made sure I'm on the latest version of the apps.

Turning off all notifications in Notification Centre for Slack and Teams helps but does mean I miss messages and doesn't always work - just tried disabling notifications for Slack and it still freezes, though it helped with Teams.

Discord seems to be okay.

Any suggestions?

Hello Britlantine,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you are having issues with your Slack and Teams apps, with both freezing when you get a notification in the app. Turning off notifications for Slack and Teams will keep the apps from freezing, but then you miss messages. We would recommend starting with the following support article on apps freeing or quitting:

If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac - Apple Support

You might also try using only one of the apps at a time as a test. There may be something in the two apps that is conflicting with each other.

We were also able to find this support page from Slack that may be of help also:

Troubleshoot Slack notifications - Slack

Best regards.
