If your LG monitor has audio-in ports, run an audio cable from the MacBook Pro, and choose the appropriate Sound configuration, to see if keyboard audo controls work via that connection type.

I just purchased the LG 32UN880-B 4K HDMI/HDR10 Ergo display, and there are no keyboard sound controls over HDMI 4K either. The icons appear on screen as you would expect, but with a tiny x at the bottom. So, I have the default monitor audio set at 30%, and use audio controls from YouTube browser controls, or the ⌘↑ or ⌘↓ controls in Apple Music.

Maybe, just maybe, Apple will resolve (if possible) the audio controls over USB-C/HDMI 2.0 in a future release of Big Sur.

Hello ahmedfromfrederick,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

We understand from your post that you would like to control the volume using your keyboard. This article will provide you with the keyboard shortcuts you can use to control the volume:

Mac keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support

  • "Option–Volume Up: Open Sound preferences. This works with any of the volume keys.
  • Option–Shift–Volume Up or Option–Shift–Volume Down: Adjust the sound volume in smaller steps."

Best Regards.
