How to restore webloc icons after Safari 14.0.1 update??
iMac 27″, macOS 10.15
Yes, this is happening to EVERYONE running Mojave or Catalina. For Mojave, the 2020-006 Sec Update that Apple released Nov 2020 broke Safari 14.0's (with the 14.0.1 update) support for icons on ALL of it's file types, included .webloc files. So all files generated by Safari have blank white icons. (they do appear to still function, sans image though). This bug/defect also grays-out the "Open With..." capability for these files. So its caused by Apple releaseing the update without great QC, and they inadvertently left all the .icns out of the package (and updated Safari 14.0.1 App). And with SIP, you an't just add them back from your prior copy of Safari 14...
We have to sit tight until Apple pushes out a update for Safari 14 on Mojave and Catalina. All the various attempts to work around the problem don't work. It's been almost a month since the 2020-006 Sec Update update caused this - and the fix looks simple. We NEED AN Safari 14.02 UPDATE to fix this, Apple! (Please?)
