Tethering MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) to iPhone 8 no longer works

I've used this type of tethering a lot with these devices, and have not had any problems before. Possibly a problem introduced with Big Sur?

EDIT: Both devices are on the latest OS at the time of writing.

EDIT 2: It spontaneously started working again. No idea what changed.

Sounds like a provider issue— contact your cell provider if the issue continues or intermittent.
