Blurry text on external monitor (Samsung LS34J550) with new M1 Mac mini (2020)

I've just purchased the new mac mini and there seems to be some text rendering issues on my Samsung external monitor. The text is blurry/fuzzy. This is especially so for the Monaco font I use in RStudio/terminal. The screen resolution is set correctly, there are no problems there and video and other images are perfectly sharp, but this text blurriness is a real problem.

I decided to return the monitor (there was also monitor damage by way of an odd grey ring of pixels in the middle of the monitor. I instead have purchased a 4k BenQ monitor (EW3270UE), which wasn't much more expensive and the text looks amazing. Would recommend this monitor to anyone with a similar issue looking for a mid range monitor.

Apparently this is the result of MacOS sending data to the monitor using YPbPr instead of RGB.

See this thread https://www.chanhvuong.com/4403/fix-blurry-text-on-mac-using-external-non-apple-monitor/

Unfortunately the fix suggested there does not work on M1s. But it does give hope that a fix is possible. Either Apple corrects their setup and start using RBG as default for monitors affected, or someone savvy enough in the inner workings involved present an adjusted script that we can use for M1 computers. Please let me know when that happens :-)

I have the same problem. Text was blurry on external monitors. I ended up returning the Mac Mini M.

I understand that many people use Apple products for video editing. However, if a target population for the Mac Mini M is for people over 40 years old, then this is a real problem for Apple. Not being able to clearly read text is critically important and is a show stopper.
