Unable to Upgrade macOS to Big Sur

Using macOS Catalina on 2017 (Big Sur Compatible MecBookPro with 128GB storage. Have 19GB "free" storage, but 50GB in "other" storage. Cannot access "other" storage (greyed out), and unsure if safe to simply "delete" the 50GB which seems related to my Samsung mobile phone apps and Kies media transfer app (unsupported as 32bit app). Do I HAVE TO purchase additional hardware memory? If so, how much would that cost?

Greetings FlyingGeezer,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! It seems you're unable to account for the Other storage used by your Mac.

Other storage is storage taken by data that doesn't fall into the provided categories listed in macOS. Often times, the Other storage is personal data, or 3rd party data from other apps. You may wish to check with the app developers for information on where their apps store the data for the apps you're interested in deleting.

Apple doesn't support upgrading the storage for the 2017 MacBook Pro. You can see information for using an external storage device in the link below:
