Green rectangles on some images in Safari

Since updating to Big Sur I have a strange issue with viewing some web pages on the BBC web site. On some of the pages that have a separate story and importantly a feature section i get a set of diaganal green rectangles.

When view using Chrome or Firefox there are no green rectangles.

The url for an example is https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-55079454

Which to me looks like this;

Thanks in anticipation.

I can actually be more specific here. If you open the attached image in Safari, it displays incorrectly. In Preview and Finder is ok. Also ok in Chrome, which suggests it's probably a Safari / WebKit issue.

You are correct that it did show the green rectangles when viewed with Safari, until I disconnected my thunderbolt display and used just my macbook display at which point there were no green rectangles. But I agree that when using chrome or firefox with or without thunderbolt display the image is okay. So in my case it seems to need both Safari and Thunderbolt.
