Mojave (current version): adding an attachment in Apple Mail either using the paperclip OR simply dragging the attachment into the email window causes Mail to go into the permanent spinning beach ball. Rebuilt the mailboxes, trashed the Envelope Index files, still crashing.

Did this happen after the 2020-005 or 2020-006 SecUpd for Mojave?
Try reinstalling this in Safe Mode, but not using Firefox...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup).
Seems to fix about 90% of the problems.
I appreciate your feedback. As I was about to try what you suggested, I decided to try one more time - and it works as advertised, go figure. Thanks again - I may never know why.
