youtube scrolling is choppy and lagging

There might be something to do with your ad block extension, or apps that enables smooth scrolling.

1. Just use normal browser, for ex.: Chrome.
2. Forget about safari.
3. Profit!

Hey, I have this problem too.

I just decided to start using YouTube with Google Chrome. I dunno about you or anyone else who has this problem, but mine didn't start doing it until the last big software update my Mac had. I don't know much about computers and how this stuff works, but I'm thinking its a compatibility issue with YouTube and the new Big Sur. I have the MacBook Pro, so I doubt its anything to do with your computer itself.

I know this doesn't fix anything, but it is another option and I hope it helps.

I have the same problem for a month now, and it ain't got anything with big sur, cause I'm still on Catalina and everything worked fine until the last safari update obviously. Also, got nothing to do with internet or ISP, because on Chrome it works normally. Just a safari thing.

I seem we all need wait for next update, because on the Catalina all was good! And currently just use Chrome ;)

UPDATE: I put my computer to sleep, did not shut down completely, had all the same tabs open... and now magically, YouTube is able to scroll without any issues.

I too face similar issue....please am new to Mac interface....so initially thought it was Setting issue but couldn't solve....anyone please how to solve this issue .....or shall I wait for next safari update

I don't have a solution, but it is definitely not just Safari because it is happening to me on Chrome. So far, YouTube is the only page that isn't scrolling properly. I don't have any adblocking extensions, only Adobe, Grammarly, and Google Docs extensions. It wasn't happening this morning, before I updated my Mac to Big Sur, however. I thought it might have to do with the update, but it seems others are not having the same issue on Big Sur, so the only common denominator is YouTube.

It is the dynamic Internet health between your location, your ISP's network configuration, and YouTube. I have no issues viewing, or scrolling of YouTube content in Safari 14 on Big Sur.

I don't have any adguard extension that I know of. How do I check this?

It isnt a mouse/track pad issue because the problem is on YouTube only. Ive tried scrolling on other pages and its all good.

it's not a big sur/youtube compatibility issue. i watch at least an hour of youtube a day. many times i'm also recording. i'm not experiencing any of the symptoms you are. maybe it's a mouse/track pad issue?

Update: The issue seems to be fixed with an Adguard extension update on my M1 Macbook Air.
