cancelling Apple One but wanting to keep iCloud - lose my data?

The site talks about automatic combining of existing services, but what if you cancel AppleOne but want to go back to your original subscriptions (what happens to the iCloud data if you cancel Apple One but want to keep the data on iCloud)?

Am I supposed to cancel my own iCloud storage subscription now that I signed up for Apple1? I signed up for Apple1 a couple weeks ago and just saw the individual charge go through for my iCloud storage this month.
