How can I transfer music from the iTunes Library on my antique MacBook running OS 10.6.8 to my iPad?
When I hook them up via USB/lightning cable, iTunes on the MacBook doesn't "see" the iPad...

Not possible. You need a more recent version of OS X. At least El Capitan.

I've sucked the music I want from the old MacBook onto a USB stick, and from there got it into a Playlist within iTunes on my real computer, an iMac running Mojave (10.14.6). It's a dozen tracks, all mp3.
Now what? Surely I can export that playlist to my iPad somehow?
Connecting iPad to iMac by USB/lightning cable, I'd expect iTunes on the iMac to "see" the iPad-- but alas, no.
