Face fell off watch-200 to fix, no exchange, no credit? The product is expected to last a year??

My watch face fell off yesterday. Just out of the blue. I signed into support, saw repairs were available, tried to do that but it estimated that it would cost 200 dollars to repair it. A new watch is advertised for 279. Called customer service and a curt, young man explained why I should pay 200 to have a watch face fixed because their products are warrantied for a year, unless I pay an additional cost for a extended warranty. This is poor product and worst customer service. Fitbit takes better care of its clients. How disappointing. It’s unfortunate that I just purchased a new phone as well-if I had known Apple had such shoddy products and predacious repair and warranty policies. I would have returned to an Android platform.

That's appalling. I'm guessing that you're in the US though? If you're in the UK they offer five year statutory warranty because someone sued them, and 2 years across the EU. Although for the statutory warranty the burden of proof that the problem is due to a manufacturing fault lies with the buyer so in theory they could insist on you proving it wasn't due to misuse.

I managed to brow-beat Apple Support into bringing an iPad Pro back into warranty that failed during an iOS update last year, I think what made the difference was when I said I'd never buy an Apple product again if they didn't sort it - and I meant it. They could see I'm a long standing customer too, and since then I've bought a Macbook Pro, two Watches and an iPhone for my family so they've ended up ahead.

Alternatively, do you have any home insurance that might cover you? Or maybe insurance through your credit card if you used a credit card to buy it?
