Moving From iPhone 8+ to iPhone 12

I'm looking at buying a new iPhone because mine is slow and has trouble charging. If i buy a new iPhone 12 from Apple and have it sent to my house, is it as simple as syncing the 12 with my current backup and moving the SIM card into the new phone? Or do i have to contact my wireless provider to have them activate or transfer anything?


Also, how do i make sure that my new phone is as close to a carbon copy of my current one as possible? I want to make sure that all my photos, apps, app data, and passwords move over. I want the phones to be identical so i can continue using the new phone as if it were the same as the old one. I also have alot of photos and "people" albums that i want to make sure move over seamlessly.

See this link for the different methods of transferring your data from the old phone to the new one:

Transfer content from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

While you could just put the SIM card from your old phone into the new one, it is recommended that you contact your cellular carrier. There may be options or settings that won't transfer properly.
