Forbidden symbol when booting or rebooting mac

Hi!

I have a problem with my macbook pro mid 2012 13'', running Catalina 10.15.7.

I recently installed an SSD in the place of the CD drive and installed the macOS trough the recovery mode. After that it started to appear a forbidden symbol and after some time waiting it boots to the other disk, the original one, which is not the propose of all this upgrade.

I've done this once so this time its just an upgrade of the SSD because i needed more space in it and back with the other SSD this never happened.

The other strange thing is that this forbidden symbol only appears after i have the mac turned on or off after a long number of days.

After some search i found that this can be fixed by reseting the PRAM and running the first aid and i tried all of that and its still the same.

What i do to boot to the correct system/disk is force the mac to shut down and simply try again and at the second or third time often works, but its very annoying and i think it's not good for the machine.

Is there any easier option instead of re install the macOs? What should i do?

Thanks in advance!

Hello Fbgspb11,

Thanks for following up. With macOS reinstall, it's actually not designed to remove any of your data or applications during the process as long as you're not doing a full erase and reinstall. Although it's recommended you have a backup, this is precautionary, just in case something goes wrong.

As for the macOS reinstall; given your current situation, performing this through recovery would likely be your best bet. Depending on which macOS version you're looking to install, will dictate the key combination you'll want to use.

Reinstall macOS

Best wishes!
