Misbehaving Delete Key - "Magic" keyboard

My magic keyboard (iMac 27 inch, i7) has a delete key that is wildly inconsistent. When tapped sequentially, it jumps all over the text, deleting backwards and forwards randomly, sometimes deleting chunks of text. Makes editing very difficult. Anyone have a fix for this? Perhaps since it is a "magic" keyboard, it is subject to some evil spell?
