Can you turn off AirPods microphone completely?

I've got an awesome Rode Microphone, and I'm about to start on Zoom for the first time, and wondering if I can turn off the AirPods Microphone. I see where you can make the AirPods microphone on the left or the right, but can you turn it off COMPLETELY and use another microphone that connects with USB?
