macOS Big Sur - "Passwords..." is stuck at the top of my screen

Hi all. After upgrading to the new OS today I now have a button that says "Passwords..." stuck at the top of the screen. It is blocking the icons behind it as well. I can't drag it out of the way.

When I hover over it it turns blue but when I click on it nothing happens. I've restarted my computer already and no luck. Anyone have any idea how to get rid of this? Using a 13in. 2019 MBP for reference.

Hi Rabboarder,

Try holding the Command Key and left clicking on the 'Passwords...' icon.

Hello, Rabboarder! Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. We know that this message must be distracting so we can understand why you are reaching out for help. We can certainly offer assistance.

From what we can see, the message always appears, even after you restart your Mac. In a situation like this, we’d suggest relaunching the Finder to see if this clears away the message. You can Relaunch Finder from the Force Quit menu of your Mac: How to force an app to quit on your Mac

After you restart your Mac, click the Apple Menu and choose “Force Quit”. Select Finder in the Force Quit window, then click Relaunch.

We hope that this step provides you with a solution.

Cheers!

Hi,

I have the exact same issue. Started when I installed Big Sur on my Macbook Pro 13 (from 2016). I thought it was because it was an old Macbook... got my new M1 Macbook Air and the same problem occurred after a couple of weeks.

I have no idea what triggers it and I don't have "Forticlient" as some of you.

But by holding the Command Key and left clicking on the 'Passwords...' button it disappeared (at least for now).

Attaching a screenshot for reference... but it would be nice to know what that is, glad to know I'm not the only one, was worried there for a while that I might have been hacked :D

Thanks for your response, MoonJ. I rebooted in safe mode and the message was gone. I restarted regularly and the message is still gone. I did reboot my computer in safe mode for another issue last week, however. I honestly don't remember if the message was there once I rebooted regularly at that time as I was troubleshooting a different issue, so I'm wondering if the message is going to appear again. I guess only time will tell, but for now it is gone. Thanks for your help!

Thank you for the follow up message, Rabboarder. We understand that this message has appeared again after you restarted your Mac normally.

To help us learn more, can you tell us if the message appears after opening a certain app or set of applications? To help you test this, you can restart in safe mode once again to see if the message is cleared away before certain applications are opened.

We look forward to your reply and to helping you more with this.

Cheers!
