Powerpoint 365: Video across multiple slides

I'm using Powerpoint 365 (OS 10.15.7) and trying to play video across multiple slides in a PPT. There are many online tutorials to do this, but when I try to replicate the instructions on my Mac I get an error (a small exclamation mark triangle, with no explanation on hover or right-click). For background, the instructions are to go to animation pane on the video and change "Media Options" to Stop Playing after X number of slides. But if I try to set that number to anything greater than 1 I get an error. Has anyone solved this? Or is Mac PPT just deficient?

This has been a troublesome tool in PowerPoint for Mac going back many years.

We never use PowerPoint now to do this, instead Keynote works perfectly

  1. place the video file on the slide where it is to start playing from
  2. Add the video to each consecutive slide you want the video to play across.
  3. On each slide, click the file to select it, click the Format button, click Video, then turn on “Play video across slides”.
  4. Turn off “Play video across slides” for the last slide you want to play the file across.
