Mail program blocking one account

I have two email addresses, one BT, one Gmail. I view incoming emails not direct but through the Mac Mail program.

Suddenly, the Mail program has stopped showing mails from gmail. Also, all mails I had previously received from Gmail have disappeared from the Mail program. I have checked the Accounts section in System Preferences and both the BT and the Gmail accounts are selected,

Incidentally, at the top of the Mail program above the column showing read and unread emails, it says: inbox - btinternet. No mention of Gmail.

Any ideas, anyone?

Hey there pauldsh,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re having issues accessing your Gmail account in Mail on your Mac. We’ll be happy to help with this.

If the account is added but not showing in Mail, go to Gmail through a web browser and make sure all your messages are backed up. Then use the steps from the following link to remove the Gmail account from your Mac, then restart and add it back:

Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac

We hope this helps.

Take care.

Soon after making my post, I realised that I had been very stupid. I had just upgraded to Big Sur and had not noticed that, in the new version of Mail, the mails from my two accounts are no longer mingled but separated, with the BT ones above and the Gmail ones underneath. For this I win the coveted Idiot Of The Year award.

Thank you, nonetheless, for spotting my post. I will keep the information in case I need it in the future.
