iMessage and FaceTime unknown error when logging in

Hi,

When I try to log in to my iMessage or Facetime on my MacBook Air it says an unknown error occurred. I tried to log out from my Apple ID, iCloud on Mac to see if I can log in but still couldn't.

All the things I tried:

  • NVRAM reset
  • SMC
  • log out and log in again from iCloud (Apple ID)
  • using external hard drive (still didn't work)
  • logged in to iCloud online and remove device
  • updated software to the latest (it didn't work neither with Mojave, Catalina nor with the new Big Sur
  • checked time and location
  • I tried almost all the things I found on the internet

Everything else works fine except iMessage and FaceTime.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.0

Thank you for answering. Unfortunately it is not working with other apple ID either but only on MY mac and I can log in with my apple ID on other devices both iphones and Macbooks except to my Macbook Air. There’s definitely no problem with my apple ID, so I guess there is something with my Macbook.

Have someone else attempt to sign in using their Apple ID. If they can successfully sign in and use Messages/FaceTime, it may be your Apple ID. Someone I know had this happen and I was able to sign in using my Apple ID. After a call to Apple Support and then being elevated to a tier 2 support person, it turned out it was a problem with their Apple ID. It took the software engineers 3-4 days to fix the problem. When calling Apple, make sure you tell them it is an Apple ID problem so you don't get charged.

You can also try signing in on another device/computer. There have been a couple of posts where people's device/computer was blocked. You will need to contact Apple for that problem also.
