iOS 14 Headphone Volume limiter kicking in when connected to car Bluetooth aux adapter

Since upgrading to iOS 14 my iPhone thinks my Bluetooth aux adapter in my car is a pair of headphones and is constantly turning itself down because it thinks I'm listening too loudly. I'm not, obviously, I have the phone output at 100% and then control the level with the volume control on the cars head unit. Apparently because I'm the UK there's no way to turn this off but is there a way to tell it I'm not actually using headphones?

I'm sure there are others out there who have had this same issues with in-car entertainment or bluetooth speakers.

Go to sounds and haptics>headphone safety>lightning adapters>Forget all adapters. Reconnect the lighting aux adapter and it will ask if you are connected to headphones or other device. click other device and it will stop automatically turning down.

My sentiments exactly! I have issues with relinquishing my free will, even in the smallest sense. Apple’s poor justification - for this clear control tactic- has also forced me to question my loyalty. Are they seriously using the excuse that they are “saving us from ourselves by helping us” when we can all see that this is a tactic to avoid future lawsuits? At this point and if I purchase another Apple device, anything thereafter becomes my fault. Not only is the feature frustrating but it also makes me very uncomfortable. I’m currently shopping for ANYTHING other than Apple!

Same. The odd thing I realized recently using the Clubhouse app is that the volume limit is only for apps that use data apparently, since I can max the audio of phone calls just fine. Since Clubhouse runs over cell service, I can max out the volume without the limiter kicking in. So the volume limiter isn't even fully implemented - only works on some apps like those for music and podcasts.

It's ridiculous cumbersome for a company so committed to ease and simplicity.

I have found some work-arounds that you can find in my earlier comments^
