Apple Magic Trackpad 1 does not connect to 2018 MacBook Pro (BigSur 11.0.1)

My Apple Magic Trackpad 1 has not been able to connect successfully to my 2018 MacBook Pro (running OS 11.0.1 big sur) for months. Further, the Apple support site refuses to acknowledge that the serial number on this trackpad is valid. I am the original owner, and I bought it shortly after it came out (I think) around 2010.

The device shows up in the Bluetooth preferences, but it can never connect successfully.

I just put fresh batteries in the Trackpad so I know it has enough power.

I'm mystified, but I suspect that it is just no longer supported, which might explain why apple support always says the serial number is not a valid serial number. I'm just guessing, though.

Can anyone shine some light on this?

The keyboard and mice work fine on all other Bluetooth enabled devices, but NOT on the one device I have with Ventura. (And, yes, I have done all the troubleshooting. Nothing makes it work properly for more than a few minutes.) It is sloppy and anti-user to let this bug continue! I left PC's to get away from this kind of shoddy workmanship!
