2020 27" iMac display gets half opaque when shutting down computer as seen below. I already went through disk utility to see if there were any issues, as well as erasing the drive and re-installing MacOS (Big Sur) and restoring from a Time Machine Backup.
Boot into Safe Mode by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.
NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;
• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)
• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
• Disables user-installed fonts
• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
Hi. Still having the issue after upgrading to MacOS 11.2.1
I have the same issue and hope it is software problem.

Just updated to Big Sur 11.2.2 and the half opaque screen continues to be an issue at shutdown
Same issue still lingers on... half opaque screen at shutdown even when upgraded to Mac OS 11.2.2

I updated to Big Sur 11.3 and my iMac still has the same issue. I have reported it to Apple through their Product Feedback, but no fix yet.
Okay. Even I updated to Big Sur 11.3 with no improvement. Keep posted if you come across the solution.
When I originally noticed this issue I booted in Safe Mode and it didn’t happen, but as soon as it was the regular startup, it happened again.

Hi. After contact with Apple Support, I've installed MacOS 11.3.1 yesterday, and the screen is still divided at shutdown...
This does not help in my case.
Tried all recommendations with no success.
I managed to get this working! ( I think) A customer gave me their 2011 iMac 27" A1312 with this exact same issue. I replaced the LCD inverter inside and cleaned the contacts and removed dust from inside. WHen I booted it up, the vertical lines were still there, however they disappeared after 10 minutes. I then shut down, reset PVRAM and then it booted up with full, clear screen. At the time of doing this it all seems to be working. I hope this could help at least someone!?
I reset the PRAM and it worked. After restarting then shutting down, the screen didn't appear split in half. Hopefully it will stay fixed.
