open messages without pin

My husband died recently and I cannot unlock his phone. I need access to his txt messages for evidence in an ongoing court case he has.

I have access to his icloud and email however he has not backed up his txt messages.

Siri is turned off on the phone so I cannot use it.

I cannot reset the phone as I cannot risk losing the txt messages.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
