I thought storage was gonna go to my iPhone storage

I deleted all my photos for some storage and nothing changed. It’s the same

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 14

One cannot purchase iCloud storage in the hope of augmenting their device's storage as the latter cannot be altered.
