Connecting new iPad with older 2013 iMac

Hello guys,


I am trying to connect my 2020 iPad to my 2013 iMac (no USB ports) to use Astropad. I have purchased the Apple USB-C to USB adapter and a good quality USB 3 Type A Male to Male data cable. I followed the advice from an Apple support page.

When I connect them up to one another nothing happens and Astropad does not recognise that I've used a USB connection.


I am not sure that these are even the right cables. I would welcome some advice.

Not all “adapters” are created equally - and whilst you ought to be able to use this arrangement, you would be best advised to avoid their use whilst troubleshooting.


This cable USB3 Type-A to USB-C cable, marketed by Apple, is suitable for the task:
