How can I delete an obsolete Mac OS installer?

I downloaded the Mojave installation app from the app store to create a USB installer drive for a colleague. This worked like a charm with the provided help document (thank you Apple!).

I then moved the now-obsolete 6GB file into the trash. No matter what I do now, the file is undeletable. Not even through the sudo -RM terminal command! What can I do?

Hi mat_rhein,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with deleting the macOS installer. We're happy to assist.

Have you also attempted to delete it by pressing and holding the Option (⌥) key or Command (⌘) key? The article here also has the steps, if needed: How to delete apps on your Mac

If the issue remains, we'd recommend attempting to delete the installer in safe mode. The guide here has the steps to help: Start up your Mac in safe mode

We hope the information helps. If you continue to have any issues, reach back out.

Cheers!
