Charger won’t charge in less I hold the cord up in a bind. Ideas?
Maybe a bad port because it won’t charge unless I hold a bind on the cord.

Either the charging cable, or the charging port, is defective.
A cable is cheap to replace and test - whereas your iPad, if defective, will require repair. Your most expedient route to discovering the cause is to visit the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store, where both cable an iPad can be tested.
