Bought 2X8 gig of Crucial RAM to boost my 24 gig to 32 on my 2011 iMac, but it is telling me there is still 24 gig, no matter how I configure it. Am I doing something wrong?
Run System information and look to see how much RAM is installed.
There are three 2011 iMacs. One, the Late 2011 "EduMode" has an i3 processor. The i3 cannot access more than 16MB RAM in any Mac.
What does About this Mac, memory tab show? Does it see all sticks of memory and the correct size for each memory stick? Also here is a knowledge support article with details that might help Install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

Mine is an i5 and as I already noted, it is running 24 gig
As a test, remove the original RAM, keep the new RAM installed.
Does the computer run, if it does not the new RAM is either faulty or it is not to the spec your Mac requires.
Go to the Crucial web site and conform the exact spec of the RAM crucial recommends and compare the RAM you have just purchased.
It's supposed to be the correct specs. The company i bought it from is sending new ram, so i'll try that technique when it comes, if it works, I'll have 32 gig of crucial.
