Touch ID security

Will my phone periodically ask for my password to unlock it on its own if I have Touch ID set up? I’m just wondering because every so often when I try to unlock it with my print it requires my password. So I need to know if it will automatically ask for it at times or if somebody is attempting to get into my phone and enters mu password wrong five times.
