Why does my iPad Pro show me so many e-mail drafts?

Since I upgraded to an iPad Pro (now running iPadOS 14) the mail app shows me a bar at the bottom which calls up an incredibly long list of drafts. Most of these drafts have long since been deleted from the draft folders of the corresponding e-mail accounts. Where do thy all come from? I was happy to look up my drafts in these folders on my previous iPad. How can I get rid of this distracting and unhelpful feature?
