Contact show as numbers, no names

My contact names come and go - most of my contacts show as numbers (despite saving their names several times!) so when someone calls or texts me I don’t know who it is without asking. Then for a few hours a couple of contacts will be showing as names again - then later on they’ll go back to just numbers. So when I search in my contacts for ‘dad’ for example - nothing will come up! And if he texts/calls me it just shows as his number. This also happens on WhatsApp - no names show just numbers and friends say that my display photo and name comes and goes.

ive tried everything I’ve read online but nothing has worked! I’ve tried switching my default account to iCloud, I’ve tried toggling short name on and off. HELP ☹️☹️

Hello Holyyoung95,

It sounds as if you contacts are appearing randomly and not always saving. We understand for frustrating this can be and we are here to help.

First let's go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts and verify which accounts you are currently syncing with. This article may be able to provide some guidance: If you accidentally deleted your calendars, bookmarks, or contacts from iCloud

Next, please go to Settings > Phone and make sure "Dial Assist" is enabled, and then make sure your iPhone is fully up to date and then test your issue again:

Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
