ICloud not backing up

My iCloud storage allowance is 50GB. I currently am using 43GB, but my iPhone XR has stopped doing backups a month ago, and I remember receiving random messages that my iCloud storage was full. Even though it is not, I have been deleting pictures, movies and email, but it is still not backing up. Please advise.
