The latest iTunes Update Caused My iTunes to Disappear From My Control Panel, and My Desktop Icon is Gone

In the last week I clicked on an iTunes update as I have many times before. Now, I still have my iTunes, but it is now missing from my Windows 10 Desktop Control Panel. The shortcut icon is also now gone. If I didn't have it pinned to my taskbar I wouldn't know where to find it. How do I fix this?

OMG THAT WORKED! THANK YOU!

Thank you SO much tt2!! So now that I have my desktop icon back, can I unpin the iTunes icon from my task bar? Frankly, I a a little afraid to do that for fear the desktop icon won't work and I will lose my iTunes again.

What do you think?

I'm not sure iTunes is supposed to present itself anywhere with the control panel. You may be able to restore a desktop shortcut by repairing the existing install. Failing that nuke & pave.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Thanks tt2!

I believe you have helped me before! Glad to see you're still around!

Since it's a Friday and I don't have enough time to look into this, I will take a look on Monday and get back to you later on in the week. By the way, I have always had iTunes listed in my Control Panel these last ten plus years. Also, please clarify "nuke & pave."

Have a good weekend!
